Mites

Mites are tiny arachnids with 8 legs. They are less than 1mm long and some species are parasitic. After eggs hatch, the mite goes through the larval and then the pupal stage. They are capable of surviving in aquatic or dry environments. Bites cause a skin irritation called mange. Some species can be found inside the respiratory tract. Chiggers are a species of mites that harbor disease-causing pathogens and bacteria. Other types attack mainly poultry or crops. The spider mite creates silk and webbing. Among the thousands of different species, some mites are not parasitic and feed solely off decaying matter. The clover mite is characterized by a bright red color.
